Bible in 90 Days- Day 15 Check In

I am plugging along in the Old Testament, just finished up Deuteronomy today.  I often use the SOAP method of Bible study as I read to help me focus.  I don't always write down my thoughts, but just thinking through that acronym (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) helps to focus my reading.

A little SOAP for today:
S- Deuteronomy 30:19-20
19I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live
20And may love the Lord your God, obey His voice, and cling to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

O- The Israelites were given a choice- serve God or not.  Choose life or choose death.  Obey God and live or disobey and die.  It sounds simple, but often it is not so simple.  Apparently it was never that simple for Israel.

A- It is easy for me to look at the mistakes Israel makes later on and be critical.  How could they forget all God did for them and choose wrong?  But, unfortunately, it is all too easy for me to choose wrong- even when I know the right thing to do.

P- Lord, please help to choose what is right, daily when I am faced with chance to obey you or not, help me to choose to obey you.

  1. Funny how easy it is to be critical of the Israelites rather than realize we're often just like them!
