What's In the Bible : An Overview of the Bible from the Makers of Veggietales

I've been looking at the What's in the Bible videos for quite a while now.  When the videos first came out, I thought they looked like a great teaching tool.  Then my kids and I stumbled on to Jelly Telly (from the creators of Veggietales), and I knew I wanted to see the What's in the Bible videos with some of our favorite Jelly Telly characters.

I was super excited to have the opportunity to review the first two episodes in the series.  It was especially good for us because we've just started a new school year, and we are starting back in Genesis to read through some of the Old Testament this year.

The first two episodes in the series look at an overview of the Bible and the book of Genesis.  We watched them together as a family.  Here's what we thought about the series:

1.  There is quite a bit of information here.  Don't let the fact that it's a cartoon series fool you.  The overview of the Bible included facts about who wrote the Bible, the division of the books, and even why the Catholic Bible contains more books than the Protestant Bible. (I'm not even sure I knew the details of that last fact.)

2.  They are sooo funny.   Okay, we already knew this one from our friends at Jelly Telly.  We've been enjoying the adventures of Clive and Ian, Buck Denver, the Sunday School Lady, and the others.  But, now we got to see them for whole episode.

3.  This was great for all ages.  My middle schoolers weren't too cool to laugh along with the humor, and my elementary schoolers kept repeating some of the funniest lines again and again.  Even I enjoyed the humor. (Isn't it great to find a movie that is funny and not crude?!!)

4.  Everything in the videos seems accurate and Biblical.  With any series that looks this in depth at the books of the Bible, I want Biblical accuracy.  Being cute and funny is not all it's cracked up to be if you're throwing out unBiblical information.  But, from what we've watched, the series is accurate and Biblical.

I honestly have been hesitant to buy these to own.  My kids are getting older, and I just wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money on these.  After watching, I think they are worth the investment.  I'd love to own the whole set.  The website gives tons of cool extras and even has some lesson plans available.  I think it would be easy to use this as a Bible curriculum.  I plan on looking at the budget to see if we can build up our library to own them all!
