Christmas is Coming: Review of The Sparkle Box (AND A GIVEAWAY!)

A winner has been chosen and comments are closed. :-)

Christmas is just two short months away.  I'm always looking for new traditions to do with our kids at Christmas time.  I had the opportunity to review The Sparkle Box written by Jill Hardie and illustrated by Christine Kornacki.  I loved the idea behind this simple kids' story, and I think we'll be doing a Sparkle Box of our own this year.

The Sparkle Box is a simple sweet picture book that shares the story of Sam and his family as they near Christmas time. When all of the Christmas things are set up, Sam notices a sparkly box he hasn't seen before. His mom tells him that he can open this new gift on Christmas. Throughout the season Sam's parents add to the Sparkle Box, but Sam doesn't get to see what is inside until Christmas when he discovers what the Sparkle Box really is.

This touching story is a good way to remind children to reach out to others during the holiday season and all year. It's often hard for children- especially young ones to really grasp the needs of others. The Sparkle Box helps them to see this in a more concrete way and is a really idea for a new family tradition at Christmas time.

Although I think young children will probably enjoy this picture book, I'm looking forward to using it with my older kids too. They like new "reach out" projects that they can do- especially during the holiday season. I think they'll really like the idea behind The Sparkle Box.

You can check out more about The Sparkle Box and find out how to purchase your own here at the Ideals Children's Books website. Or keep reading to find out how to win your own copy.

  1. Our favorite Christmas tradition is singing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus and having Red Velvet cake for the birthday cake. I use my grandmother's recipe, which is THE BEST, nothing like any other I've tasted, even my kids only like grandma's recipe.
