Homeschool Mother's Journal: October 12, 2012

  • In my life this week…
I am adjusting to working in the afternoons after homeschooling in the morning.  The money it brings will be nice, and I love the kids in the daycare where I am, but it has been hard physically. Being on the go and on my feet is hard for my fibromyalgia.  Jason reminded me that being in this position gives me the chance to lean on God's strength.  I know I'm surely not doing it in my own strength!
  • In our homeschool this week…
We actually had two days off.  Our church school was out Thursday and Friday, so Charles spent Wednesday night camping with his cousin.  Today was a field trip, but only two of my kids went- with a friend- because two have been coughing and fervery.
  • Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
Take a break when you need to.  I was tempted to push on this week and try to fit in school, but I decided we just needed the days off.
  • I am inspired by…
My husband.  He's helpful and thoughtful and reminds me all the time to stay focused on what's really important.  He even finished supper one day this week.
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Tomorrow is a carnival at the church.  Games and bouncy things and candy, I'm sure, sounds like fun.  On Sunday I hope we will get to see our little girl that stayed with us until she moved!
  • My favorite thing this week was…
Getting to know kids at the daycare.  I've been surprised at how quickly some of them have grown on me.  I like seeing them get on the bus and greeting them when I get to daycare.
  • What’s working/not working for us…
School is actually going well.  Charles's new science curriculum is so much better for him.  I'm loving history of course.  (Ya'll are probably getting tired of hearing me say it.)  I'm working on making sure we get together work done before one o clock, so the kids can do their independent work at the daycare.
  • Things I’m working on…
More crockpot recipes.  My new crockpot came in the mail last Thursday.  But I'll say more about my food below.
  • I’m reading…
Lots of things.  I just finished reading and reviewing Keowee Valley- historical fiction set in the late 1700s in South Carolina.
  • I’m cooking…
Crockpot recipes.  I tried two new ones today.  Both came from a Fix it and Forget it cookbook.  The first, BBQ beef was very successful.  It was similar to a sloppy joe but with a definite BBQ flair.  The second was a creamy lasagna with a white sauce.  Note to self: eggs in crockpot = bad idea.  I'm not sure if I just did it wrong (a definite possibility) or if it was just a bad recipe, but it was pretty inedible.
  • I’m grateful for…
My family.  I love my husband.  God gave me a good one.
  • I’m praying for…
Several requests that have come through lately in my online homeschool group.  So many people are struggling.  Also for Tricia.  If you've ever read the CFHusband blog, you may know Tricia.  She received new lungs a few years ago, but she is really struggling now.  She needs a new transplant.
  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
This was lunch for my little girls Thursday.  They had had a late breakfast, so they didn't want much.  They loved the arrangement and said it looked like a flower.
