Homeschool Mother's Journal: October 20, 2012

  • In my life this week…
I have had lots of physical pain.  Because of my new job and working every afternoon, my pain levels are higher.  I'm still trying to adjust.  Last weekend and this weekend, I've pretty much crashed.  On Wednesday of this coming week, I have an appointment to see a pain specialist.  I'm really hoping for some good advice and maybe some relief!
  • In our homeschool this week…
We are adapting to getting all of our together stuff done in the mornings so that I can go to the gym in the afternoon.  I'm still trying to get a good system for checking the independent work that is done after I leave.  Things are going well, though.
  • Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
Sometimes it's okay to take a break from academics and deal with behavior/character.  That's one of the blessing of homeschooling.  We had some issues to deal with one morning this week.  For a while I was thinking, "Wow, I'd like to see that big yellow bus today!"  But then I realized how very fortunate I am to have the opportunity to deal with these things as they arise instead of having to push them off and maybe letting bad attitudes and resentment build.
  • I am inspired by…
This article this week really touched me and reminded not to be on the comparison bandwagon!
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We've been around the house quite a bit because all the kids have had bad colds/upper respiratory stuff.  Kathryne's actually turned into a slight pneumonia!

Ashlyne went to her first gymnastics meet yesterday!  She placed 1st in floor, 2nd in bars, 3rd in beam, 4th in vault and 1st All Around in her age group!
  • Questions/thoughts I have…
How can working work out with school and holding the kids accountable for their independent work?  I'm still working on this one.
  • Things I’m working on…
Pinning crockpot recipes from Pinterest!  I love Pinterest!
  • I’m reading…
If We Survive by Andrew Klavan.  I've gotten to review some of his books before.  They're young adult books, but they are fast paced and suspenseful, and I enjoy them.  I'm also still reading through the Bible in 90 days.  We are 2/3 of the way through this cycle.  I'm reading chronologically this time and really enjoying it.
  • I’m grateful for…
My family and the privilege of homeschooling.  I know I say that almost every week, but it's just true.
  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Charles and Kathryne have been learning about perspective in their photography class and messing around with it.  I thought this was cool.
