Homeschool Mother's Journal: November 25, 2012

  • In my life this week…
Thanksgiving!  We did accomplish some school on Monday and Tuesday.  We took Wednesday off (except for gymnastics for Ashlyne) and ate supper with some friends- a preThanksgiving.  On Thursday we had our traditional two meals- lunch with my crew and supper with Jason's.  We came home after and for the first time in a very long time slept in on Black Friday.  I did go out for just a little bit of shopping Friday afternoon, but I've gotten most of our Christmas online this year (and still gotten some really good deals.)  Jason's cousin and his fiance spent Thursday and Friday night with us, so we had a good time just hanging out and visiting.  Church was today, and life goes back to normal tomorrow- at least a holiday sort of normal.
  • In our homeschool this week…
For Monday and Tuesday we just did independent work.  We skipped together work this week.
  • Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
This advice is to myself as much as anyone else: Don't become obsessed by the minute details.  I've been on a kick about keeping records for high school and having a transcript.  I'm not even in the high school years quite yet.  But, for some reason it has all become a burden this week.  STOP OBSESSING.  There, I've said it.  Maybe I can heed my advice.
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This week we headed to visit family and friends. Tomorrow we are going to visit with some homeschooling friends for the morning.  Then we are headed to serve at a women's shelter tomorrow night.
  • My favorite thing this week was…
Having Jason home.  I love it when he is off work, and we spend time together.
  • Questions/thoughts I have…
How to keep up with grades and create a transcript for high school?  Uh oh, there I go again.
  • Things I’m working on...
Setting up our Jesse Tree.  This is a tradition we've done the past few years.  This year I'm trying to do a more permanent tree with laminated ornaments that we can keep from year to year.
  • I’m reading…
A Karen Kingsbury collection.  These are three early Kingsbury books from the late 90s, early 2000s.  I've long enjoyed Karen Kingsbury's novels, but I had missed these earlier books, and I'm really enjoying them.

  • I’m cooking…
Ha Ha Ha  I tried pancakes tonight for the first time in a while.  Let's just say, that's what IHOP's for.  I'll remember that next time.  Jason says I get points for continuing to try.  I'm not sure that's a compliment.
  • I’m grateful for…
My family, my friends, good food, and good fellowship over Thanksgiving.
  • I’m praying for…
A worshipful holiday season.  I pray that our business is contained and that we might enjoy our time together as a family and that we might make time to focus on God.
  • A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
I reviewed a really good marriage book over at my I'm Livin' My Dream blog.  I enjoyed it, and I have a copy to give away.  If you hurry over, you can enter to win.
