Blogging Through the Alphabet: M is for Mom's Taxi Service, Mice, and New Mercies

Blogging Through the Alphabet Yesterday I felt like the main character in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day.

My day began harmlessly enough. Jason took Kathryne for her first day of counseling as a ROAR sports Counselor in Training so that I didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn. That was good.

I headed straight into Mom's Taxi Service when I did get up. I dropped Charles at the bowling alley to bowl with my brother-in-law and his sons. I took Ashlyne and Rachel to the library for the reading program kickup. I headed back to our house and did about thirty minutes of school work with Ashlyne and Rachel. I headed back out the door to pick up Kathryne, thinking I needed to be there by 1pm.

That was my first issue. After driving 30 minutes across town, I found out she didn't get finished until 1:30. That meant leaving Charles with Ashlyne and Rachel longer than anticipated. And I hadn't left lunch for them. So I had to call home and coordinate that Charles would help get them lunch.

I headed back across town with Kathryne, picked up lunch for her, and dropped her at my moms to go to a facial that they had an appointment for. (Remember Mom's Taxi Service) Then I headed home to make sure that the other children had lunch.

When I got back home, I was pretty overwhelmed by a bad sewer smell. We've had a little problem with smell when we've had rain. Jason has suspected that the hall bath sink needed something. It was redone by the previous renter who may or may not have known what he was doing. The past week or so, the smell has intensified. We've had quite a lot of rain in short bursts. But I had never smelled the smell this bad.

When my mom came to bring Kathryne home, she suggested we call the plumber about it, so we did. I found out they could come today to look at things. Okay. a night sleeping with the smell of raw sewage, hmmm.

In the meantime, I got out a pot to begin supper. As I was doing so, I noticed yucky evidence of a mouse in this cabinet- the one that adjoins our under sink cabinet. I had to hurry off to take Charles and Rachel to swim team (Mom's Taxi Service), so I didn't have time to examine it closer.

Sure enough, when Jason came home to investigate, he found more mouse evidence. He pulled out  everything in the cabinet and, when I came home, I begin cleaning.  We left traps under the sink.

So I headed to bed on Monday evening with the nasty smell wondering about mice in my cabinets.

Thanks be to God that He promises his mercies are new every day. My favorite verses: Lamentations 3:22-23 The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

And today, there was no more mousie evidence. The plumber fixed the sink, and the smell is gone. And I only had two places to take people today.  Woohoo.

  1. Love the analogy... Some days it all seems to pile up, but thankfully he shows his mercy with a new clean day.
