Great Books I've Read Recently

As you may know if you've hung around here for a while, I love, love, love to read. I read for reviews most of the time, and I love it because I read books I may not have picked up otherwise. Here are some of the best I've read recently.

1. The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate. This is the story of Tandi Jo, a single mom struggling with relationships and life in general. When she stumbles upon the prayer boxes of her deceased landlord, Tandi Jo slowly begins to understand that God still loves and cares for her, and she learns that she can trust the love and support of others.

2. Death on Lindisfarne by Fay Sampson. This book is the second in a series called the Aiden Mysteries. It is a British novel, and I love the different speech patterns and ideas. Death on Lindisfarne is a mystery/suspense. I loved the first one and this one- which could be read as an independent story. I can't wait for another installment!

3. Born of Persuasion by Jessica Dotta. This is a Victorian graphic novel. Full of rich description and compelling characters, I couldn't put this one down. It was reminiscent of novels I used to read in high school and college from Victoria Holt. This was one I was sad to see ending. There is a sequel coming, and I look forward to it.

4. Don't Miss the Boat: Facts to Keep Your Faith Afloat by Paul Taylor. This is a nonfiction book published by New Leaf Publishing. Taylor looks at the history of the flood and offers insight into the Biblical record of the global flood. He also takes a look at scientific data and considers how it fits into a belief in the Biblical global flood.

5. The Governess of Highland Hall by Carrie Turnasky. This is another great read with a poor working girl meets wealthy man story. Even though the theme is not new, the story and characters were compelling and made me want to keep reading and reading.
