Hearts at Home Blog Hop: Knock it Off!
This month's blog hop topic is a bit convicting to me. I am very guilty of the comparison problem. You see, when we compare ourselves to other moms, one of two things can happen: We can look at them and think how much better they are than we are and become so overwhelmed and discouraged. Or we can look at them and think how much better we are and become proud.
The Bible cautions against comparing ourselves with others:
Galatians 6:4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else,
Instead we are told to look to Jesus:
Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Our eyes don't need to be on others. Our eyes need to be on Jesus.
Right now the Hearts at Home website is asking readers to sign the Knock it Off! Commitment. This is our commitment to stop judging- ourselves and others. Here is the pledge:
I took the pledge. I'm guilty of comparing in both ways. I look at other moms who are obviously not doing this as well as I am, and I become proud. I look at moms who have it all together and plan millions of activities and have spotless houses, and I become discouraged.
So I took the pledge. And with God's help, fixing my eyes on Jesus and not others, I'll keep it.
And if I have any readers from the Midwest, check out the information about the No More Perfect Moms conference coming soon to Rochester MN. I'd love to be able to go to a conference in person!
