I am always encouraging parents to read aloud to their kids. There are so many incredible benefits of reading aloud, I could write a book about it. And I love to find new resources for helping parents to share the love of books with their children. So I was excited to have the opportunity to review a brand new learning tool- Peekapak.

What is Peekapak?

Peekapak offers storybook craft sets that are intended for ages 4-8. The sets come with a storybook, play props that help children act out the story and create for themselves, and learning ideas written by early childhood educators to help parents know what to focus on for each age group.

The storybook features the Peekapak Pals, characters that the kids will get to know as they read more stories. The stories focus on values such as friendship, creativity, and working together. As parents read through the book with their child, there are some questions and thinking activities along the way.

After the story is read, there are fun things to do.The paks are designed to foster creativity and give kids and parents the opportunity to do activities together. There are characters and scenes to give the child opportunity to act out the story she has just heard. And there are craft activities that go along with creative things the characters in the stories did.

What are some great things about the Peekapaks?
  • Having the same characters appear in each story helps kids to have an interest in them, looking for them in each story and being interested in what they are doing.
  • The stories have cute and colorful illustrations that will draw kids' attention.
  • Included in the pak are ideas for parents to engage children at each age level. Sometimes a parent doesn't know what to expect from a 4-5 year old. But information in the pak will help parents to understand this and to discuss with their child accordingly.
  • I love the concept of having characters and scenes for the child to act out the story again and again. This is great for creative play and will encourage critical thinking and higher levels of thought as the child acts out the story and then likely moves into making up stories.
  • I also really like having the craft project that matches what the characters in the story are doing. Again, it fosters creativity and encourages the child to really be involved in the story.
  • Having a package come in the mail regularly is something kids will really look forward to is great. All kids love to get packages in the mail. Knowing they have the Peekapaks to look forward to will be fun all month long.
How does Peekapak work?

Choose a pak to order for your child or as a gift. The pak will arrive in the mail. Then each month a new pak will arrive with storybook and activities. There are several pricing plans based on how long you want to secure your subscription. Plans begin at $19.95. There is also a special price to add a sibling by providing extra craft materials.

If you still aren't sure about Peekapak, you can sign up for a digital freebie of a pak. You'll receive a PDF file of the storybook and of the characters and scene for that pak. You won't receive the craft supplies, but you'll be able to have a look at the story and see if Peekapak is a good fit for your family.

Disclosure: I received a free digital Peekapak in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own, and I was not compensated in any other way.
