Read Aloud Wednesdays: Favorite Picture Books to Read Aloud

{this post may contain affiliate links}

Every once in a while I love to share books that have been our favorite read alouds. (I love to see your favorites too!) So in today's post, I'm going to share some of our favorite picture book read alouds- books I've read again and again (and again and again and again) to my kids.

Owl Babies -This is one of our favorite read alouds of all time. In fact, my 9 year old still wants me to read it sometimes. I have to admit, I love it also. It's a story of sweet baby owls waiting for mama owl.

Olivia -This is the first book about the independent, free thinking pig- Olivia. We love all of the Olivia books.

There Is a Bird On Your Head! (An Elephant and Piggie Book) -Again, this is one of a series. We love all of the books about Piggy and Gerald. The books are easy reads, so it's fun for the kids to read aloud also or for us to take parts and read together.

Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale -This is the first of three (or four) Knuffle Bunny books. I challenge you to make it through the series without crying like a baby. I love these. Yes, the kids do as well. But I would definitely say I love them even more.

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type -This one is very fun to read out loud with sounds and voices. It's also quite funny- even to me.

The Chicken of the Family -My younger girls love this one. And it is still brought up for night time reading on occasion. I love it to, and I can just envision this happening in our family. The older sisters convince the younger that she's really a chicken. But they are the ones that lose out when she decides to go live in the chicken coop, and mom and dad are mad at them!

The Big Alfie and Annie Rose Storybook -My sister told me about the Alfie books when my oldest kids were very little. I immediately loved them with their beautiful illustrations and the sweet, gentle stories of Alfie and his family. They are written by a British author, so the family is British, and the stories all have that "proper English" feel. This particular one is a collection of stories that feature Alfie and his little sister, Annie Rose.

Miss Rumphius -This is another book with beautiful illustrations and a touching story about Miss Rumphius who made the world a better place by sharing lupines (and the love of reading) everywhere she went.

Madeline -"In an old house in Paris all covered with vines lived twelve little girls in two straight lines." The Madeline books are classics, and we love to read all of them aloud. They are ones we check out from the library (if we don't own them) again and again.

Strega Nona -I love all of Tomie dePaola's books. Strega Nona is one of the most well-known, with it's magic pasta pot and timely lesson of obeying instructions.

Those are some of our favorite picture book reads. I'd love for you to share some of yours. You can link up any reading related post below. And you can grab a button below.
