Review of My Daughter's Legacy: Historical Fiction from Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. And I love fiction set during the Civil War. I'm not so thrilled when the author is obviously of Northern persuasion. I'm a Southern girl after all. But I can still enjoy a good story- even if there's a Northern bent.

My Daughter's Legacy from the Cousins of the Dove series is one of these. The book alternates between modern times and Civil War times. This one is the third in the series, but I was able to read and enjoy it without having read the previous books.

About the Book:

From the book's description...Women of Unfailing Conviction

Virginia, 1864

Therese Jennings cannot abide the thought of owning slaves. When her widowed mother inherits a plantation, Therese flees to Civil War Richmond, where she works as a governess by day and tends to wounded soldiers at night. But when trouble befalls her family, can she reconcile her obligations with her beliefs? And will love—whether with an old beau or a handsome new suitor—ever fit in her broken world?

Virginia, present day

Nicole Talbot's life is back on track after years of substance abuse. Home from college for the summer, she's finally ready to share a shocking secret, one that raises new questions about a traumatic childhood experience. But when facts she uncovers cast doubt on her family's legacy, she must risk all that she's gained—her fresh start, her family's trust, and her growing relationship with a new man—to unlock the secrets of the past.

From the Christy Award-winning team of Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould comes a thrilling tale of two women longing to follow God's leading, make the most of second chances, and find true love at last.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this one. I liked the back and forth between Civil War and modern time periods. I enjoyed both of the main characters and felt as if they were well-developed. I liked the way the story flowed between time periods. And the romance in the story- both of them- were sweet and touching.

This is an easy read and great for a summer read. I give this one four stars and G rating for content. You can find the book on Amazon here.
