Meet Leah

So you've stumbled upon As We Walk Along the Road and want to know who's behind this homeschool blog. My hope is that As We Walk Along the Road is a place where you can find resources for and encouragement in your homeschool journey. It is actually a remake of a former blog, lost to the world of technical problems. (You can read the story here.)

Why another homeschooling blog?

I started blogging because reading blogs and finding resources online was invaluable to me as a new homeschooling mom.  I know what it's like to be knee deep in lessons with your six-year old while the toddler runs wild and the baby is screaming because she's hungry.

Reading about the experiences of other homeschool moms gave me the confidence that I could do this thing. Having the resource of homeschooling blogs, gave me the opportunity to ask for help, look for lesson plans, or get an awesome craft idea for that book we just read without changing out of my pajamas and with a baby in my arms.

So, yes, in some ways As We Walk Along the Road is just another homeschooling blog. But it's unique because every homeschooling journey is unique, and I hope that you'll come here and find rest, reassurance, and resources you can really use. It's my goal to be authentic, to admit that this thing is hard sometimes, but also to give you hope that it can be done.

Who is lcourtneymom?

If you've found me from anywhere in social media, you may know me as lcourtneymom, my tag everywhere I go. That is an "l" at the beginning and not an "i". I once taught a co-op where I had a little student whose mom read my blog regularly. I found out that he called me "iCourtneymom" after seeing his mom following me on social media.

So, lcourtneymom it is. I'm Leah, a forty-something mom of four. I have homeschooled from the beginning, and I believe that learning begins at birth. So, you might say I've homeschooled over 15 years! I now have two high schoolers in the mix, and I'll soon have no little ones. I'm also mom to an incredibly spoiled Diva Dog named Blondie. I've threatened to homeschool her when all of these kids are gone, and I don't know what to do with myself.

My life loves include Jesus, my husband, my kids, and, of course, my dog. In my free time, you won't find me eating bon bons like most stay-at-home moms. Instead you'll probably find me curled up with a good book or listening to an audio book while I color.

What about our homeschooling?

We homeschool in an eclectic style- which is a fancy way of saying we use what works-, but much of what we use is either classical or Charlotte Mason in philosophy. I believe in adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child.

Why As We Walk Along the Road?

When I first began blogging many (many) years ago, my blog was called The Courtney Six. That's our family nickname (and a much easier way to sign cards when I want to indicate that it came from all of us!). But when I decided to focus the blog on homeschooling and becoming a community to other homeschoolers, I wanted the title of the blog to reflect not only who we were but what we were about.

As We Walk Along the Road comes from the words of Deuteronomy 6, one of my favorite Bible passages: These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

One of the main reasons that we homeschool is so that we can teach our children and share our Christian worldview all the time- waking up, lying down, sitting in the house, and walking along the way. So As We Walk Along the Road reflects our commitment to teach our children all the time, in all we do.
