Outdoor Hour Challenge #2

Leah Courtney
We completed Outdoor Hour Challenge #2 this week. The challenge was to spend 10-15 minutes outside and listen. Then to come in and talk about what we heard. I can tell you that getting four children to be silent enough to listen was an accomplishment! Add to that the fact that we have had enough rain this week to build an ark, and this week was not the greatest for our outdoor challenge.

We did go out and spend about ten minutes in the rain, (Did I mention it was a cold rain?) and then we discussed what we heard, saw, and smelled. Surprisingly, the kiddos had some really good thoughts. They enjoyed being outside- even in the rain, and they are really enjoying this nature study.

When we came in and discussed what we had seen, heard, and smelled, I gave them the choice of either writing or drawing about it in their nature journals. I sketched in mine also and wrote about what I had seen, heard, and smelled.

We are enjoying the outdoor challenges. I am hoping for nicer weather for next week's challenge.
