Checking In- Couponing, Bible in 90 Days and Life in General

Last week we spent in Egypt- at VBS.  We had great fun singing, crafting, playing games, eating snacks, and learning about Joseph’s life.  We had around 400 children and 100 workers each day at VBS, so it was quite a crowd.  I taught in Kathryne’s class because this will be her last official year at VBS.  Rising 6th graders are our “graduating” class.  Next year they can be youth helpers!  Having a baby to take to VBS was an experience I hadn’t had in a while.  Abby did very well and stayed in a class of one year olds, but she was definitely tired in the afternoons.  This week I’m trying to stay home and let us have some down time.  I’m also fighting a cold, so I’m trying to keep close to home and let us all rest.

Joseph, himself, taught our Bible lessons.

Every day we played Egyptian games.  This was water day.

I realized last night that I didn’t check in with my Bible in 90 Days reading.  I am caught up currently and reading in 2 Samuel.  I was behind two different days last week, but I bought the Kindle version of the Bible in 90 Days, and it really helps me to read when I have a few minutes, so I got caught up quickly.

Couponing is not going so well.  I believe in some ways I am spending more because I am trying to use ALL my coupons and go to all the sales.  So, I am finding myself going out and spending money at times that I normally would not, and I am buying things I would not normally buy.  From June 21- July 26, I have spent $1006 on food and health and beauty and some school supplies.  I have purchased $1353 worth of retail, so yes, I have saved a good bit.  But, was it really saving if I shouldn’t have bought in the first place?!!!  I know my figures this month include the beach, and as I posted before, I know we did better in groceries at the beach this year, but I still think this is not working.  I am going to try to tweak and change the way I’m doing things this month, and see if I can use some of the strategies to make this work for me.

We are getting back into a school routine this week after having Bible school last week.  We will finish up our Answers in Genesis Unit Study this week.  We will finish up our Ancient Egypt lapbooks and human body unit next week.  We still have summer workbooks to work on, and I have several mini units and books I’d like to use as we finish up our summer quarter.

Believe it or not, summer activities are drawing to a close also.  Charles has this week and next to finish up flag football.  He will also finish up the summer bowling league in another week or so.  The library reading program draws to a close this week, so we have to make sure our reading records are turned in.  We have no more summer camps to look forward to.  We swim several times a week at the Y, and the outdoor pool will stay open weekends through Labor Day.  We are planning another trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Concord in September after the rest of the world goes back to school.

Every year the lazy, hazy days of summer seem to turn into the speed through the heat days.  I think I may be ready for fall to have a break!
