Review of I Am Ruth- A Beautiful Look at the Biblical Story of Ruth

When I first read the description of this book- I Am Ruth: A Story of Love, Loss, and Redemption- I knew I wanted to read it. But words can’t do justice to the beauty of this illustrated version of the book of Ruth.
Using the actual Bible passages from the New King James and recorded Biblical history, the book details the story of Ruth from the early days when Naomi and Elimelech’s family journeyed to Moab to find food while Israel was in famine to the return of Naomi and Ruth and the relationship with Boaz.
Throughout all of the story are beautiful photographs of the areas in Israel and Moab where Ruth’s story would have taken place and photographs of reenactors portraying the characters in the story.
I loved the Biblical history given here. It made some of the situations and experiences from the story better to understand. I had never understood why Ruth laid at Boaz’s feet when she went to him on the threshing floor. Customs like that are explained. And the other possible kinsman taking off his sandal when he couldn’t redeem Ruth is explained.
I have big plans for giving this to Kathryne to read as part of her history curriculum. She is covering ancient history and Biblical history, and this will fit right in.
