In January I am going to begin reading through the Bible in 90 Days.

Often when I mention reading through the Bible in 90 Days, I get some incredulous responses- “read through the whole Bible in 90 days? how!?” I’ve used this reading plan five or six times now, and Kathryne (who first began when she was 12) has read through two or three times.

I would love to have some company as I do this read through, so I’m going to give some information here and then offer a chance to sign up and read along with me.

What am I doing?
If you are not familiar with the Bible in 90 Days reading plan, you can check out the Bible in 90 Days website here. The idea of reading through the Bible in 90 Days is that you read through the entire Bible cover to cover reading about 16 pages per day. It is meant to be a read through- not a Bible study- so you don’t spend much time as you are reading. Instead you through as if you were reading a novel.

Why am I doing this?
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It contains history, prophecy, encouragement, warnings. If we do not know the Bible, we cannot know how to live like God wants us to live. Many people have never read through the Bible. Reading through the Bible in 90 Days offers a plan to read through the entire Bible in 90 Days.

I’ve used a year reading plan many times. I began reading through the Bible every year when I was high school. The only problem with using the year reading plan was that I could easily skip many days and then catch up. So my reading wasn’t really consistent. It was a stop and start through the whole year. When I am reading with the 90 day plan, I cannot easily skip even a day. If I do, the reading will be much more to catch up. Because of this, I’m very motivated to read consistently and not skip a day.

Another reason I really like this way of reading through the Bible is because I get a great big picture view of the Bible when I do it. The Bible is more than just disjointed books and verses. But with a typical devotional reading plan, you only read passages or verses. You don’t get a big picture look at God’s plan of redemption. When I read through the Bible in 90 days, the life of Jesus Christ is much better understood in light of the history of God’s people in the Old Testament.  The words of the prophets- though difficult to read through on their own- make sense as I read about what was going on during the time of the prophets.

How can you join me?
I am going to be posting the reading plan- found here– each week. I am also going to be posting an update of things I’m learning from my reading each week. If you would like to read along, there will be a link up each Monday. You can link up to a blog post where you are sharing your journey. Or you can just leave a comment about what you’re learning and how you are doing.

If you would like to read along, please fill out the Google form here. Then I will know that you are reading, and I can be an encouragement and pray for you on your journey.

Why should you join me?
I found from my first few times that reading along with a group really helped me. There is accountability within a group. There is companionship as you read and blog along with others. And I’d really like to be praying for you as you read along. I’ve also learned from my experience with this that it is really hard. And Satan will use every opportunity to distract you from God’s Word. Praying for each other is very important.

I’m looking forward to beginning this read through in January. I will be starting on January 6. The Sunday before that, I will post the reading schedule again, and I will send a reminder to anyone who has signed up. If you are on Facebook, I am also going to create a Bible in 90 Days group. When you submit your form, let me know if you’d like to be a part of this group. This will give you a chance to ask questions and to get encouragement on a daily basis.

Prayerfully consider if God may be leading you to do this reading. I look forward to joining with you in reading through the Bible.
