This month’s reading theme is “In the Kitchen.” I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not very handy in the kitchen. But my younger girls and I had some fun with this month’s book!

Because we are studying geography this year, I thought this was the perfect book for learning in the kitchen. I read the book out loud to the girls. (Although it’s an easy one that they could have read independently.) I had the girls find the places in the book on our small world map.
After we read the book, we set to work to make the pie. As a disclaimer, I must include the fact that I am NOT a good cook. And, although I have made some accomplishments in the kitchen over the years, I had never baked a pie. I must also include the fact that we used gluten free flour, and it cooks a little differently than regular all purpose flour.
