This Week @ As We Walk Along the Road: Easter Fun and Beautiful Weather

Spring has finally sprung for good I think. We always have lots of rain in the spring, but I’ll keep the rain as long as we keep the warm weather. I’m ready to be done with jackets and long pants. We had some Easter fun this past weekend, and then we headed back into the school routine. It’s hard to believe there are only a few more weeks left in our regular curriculum.

You know the week is shaping up to be good when it begins with Easter fun. Last Saturday we did our traditional Easter baskets followed by candy filled egg hunting and egg dyeing. My parents came over for supper to finish the day.

As all of the kids are getting older, I asked them if they wanted to forgo the traditional egg hunting. No one was ready to give it up. We always hide the eggs indoors. Each child has the same number of eggs. I hide all but one for each. Jason hides one in a really hard spot.

After we hunted for eggs, we dyed twelve eggs. I’m glad that even the big kids still want to do it.

We ate lunch with my sister and my side of the extended family on Sunday. This was the Easter bunny dirt cake I made for dessert. With chocolate pudding, gluten free chocolate cookies, peeps and chocolate candies you can’t go wrong.

In all things school related…the little girls are working through the Spelling You See books we’re reviewing. I love this curriculum, and they actually like it also.

They are also very into doing all kinds of art right now, so if I’m reading aloud, they are drawing, coloring, or painting.

On Monday evening I took the older kids to see Beyond the Mask. If you haven’t heard of it, you should check out the website. It’s an action-adventure movie based during the Revolutionary War. It’s produced by a Christian homeschool family. It is only showing in special showings in select theaters. Basically, you commit to buy a ticket. If the theater sells a certain number of seats, the film will come to that theater.

I went, wanting to support the film because it’s a Christian film and because it was produced by a homeschool family. I was a little leery about how good it would be; I’ll be honest. I was very pleasantly surprised. It was very good. Yes, there were things we could criticize. But it was very, very good. You can watch the trailer here, and you can see if it’s coming to a theater near you.

This picture is a little dark, but I liked hanging out with my big kids at the theater.

Ashlyne and Rachel are enjoying the ARTistic Pursuits art curriculum we’re reviewing. This week they had to draw a scene from a book we had read and use secondary colors. Ashlyne drew a scene from the Amy Carmichael biography we read.

New in our house this week… Just Dance 2015. The kids got it for the WiiU, and it’s been lots of fun watching them dance. I haven’t gotten in on the action yet. But it would probably be good exercise.

We finished off the week tonight with homemade, gluten free pizza. It’s been a slow Friday night- which is good.

The weekend will consist of a birthday party and regular church events. And then we only a few regular curriculum weeks left! We are doing some schoolwork this summer, as we always do. But I haven’t decided for sure what we’re doing.

I’m linking up this week with Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers.
