Here are some of the highlights of our week with old traditions and new fun.
Each year it's tradition to stop at a certain visitor's center as we enter Myrtle Beach. With a lure of free cokes and popcorn, the center attempts to draw you in to listen to timeshare opportunities. We've never done the timeshare spiel, but we do enjoy the visitor's center after three hours or so in the car.
Much of the time at the beach is spent, well...at the beach. Digging in the sand, jumping the waves, the kids have fun. This year the repeated reports of shark bites and sightings kept kids out of the water more than usual.
The cousins did have some moments of braving the water with body boards.
Covering oneself with sand in large and unique designs is always a tradition.
This makes several years in a row we've watched Nick Pike, an entertainer that went a long way on the show America's Got Talent. He performs at both Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach and Broadway at the Beach in South Myrtle.
Kathryne and I toured the new Hollywood Wax Museum this year. I had free tickets in exchange for a review post. You can read more about the museum and what we thought in the day three post of Five Days of Family Fun at the Beach.
Ice cream on Main Street is another of our traditions. This year our traditional spot had changed, and we were a little disappointed that the Blue Bell ice cream was replaced by Hershey's
After ice cream, we always head out to the sand for some dancing on the beach. There's music being played in the Pavilion, and we can hear it behind the Pavilion on the ocean.
The boys attempted a cheer stunt.
We headed down to Broadway at the Beach this year for some shopping, and we saw Nick Pike's show again. This time Charles was picked as one of his "helpers" for riding the unicycle. Ashlyne was picked earlier in the week on our visit.
The girls saved their money for Build a Bear at Broadway this year.
This year's trip was another fun family vacation. It's always fun to go, but it's also fun to get back to my own house and bed and routine. Don't forget to read the other Five Days of Family Fun at the Beach here.
