A Brand New Character To Teach Kids About God From What's In the Bible: A Galaxy Buck Review and Giveaway

I have long been a fan of the What’s In the Bible videos and of the related subscription site- Jelly Telly. What’s In the Bible is created by the original Veggie Tales creator Phil Vischer. The videos use animation and puppets to teach kids what the Bible and serving Jesus is all about. And now, What’s In the Bible is releasing a brand new video to introduce a new character- Galaxy Buck.

I have always been impressed with the What’s In the Bible videos because, although they are very interesting and relatable to even young kids, they explore some deep truths as they walk kids through the Bible. They continually point to God’s ultimate plan of redemption, and they are Biblically sound and accurate in the information and theology that they teach. Because I’m already a What’s In the Bible fan, I was super excited to have the opportunity to preview the first Galaxy Buck video- Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9. Keep reading to see what I thought about the movie and to win your own copy of the DVD.

From the movie’s description:

“Buck Denver has a simple dream – to save the galaxy. Working for the Galactic Mission Board, Buck dreams of carrying God’s love to every corner of the Milky Way! Except he doesn’t have a starship. Or a crew. Or even a captain’s license. He just needs a chance. But when that chance comes and Buck finds himself leading a real mission into deep space, things don’t go at ALL like he imagined! If he’s doing what God wants him to do, why is everything going wrong? From VeggieTales® and What’s in the Bible? creator Phil Vischer, Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is a wild, galactic adventure that teaches kids a powerful lesson about trusting God with everything – even our dreams! “
Run time: Approximately 40 minutes

What I thought:
  • Buck Denver is one of my favorite What’s In the Bible puppet characters. He’s a guy that’s always out to do the right thing, to seek God’s will, but who is sometimes mislead in thinking exactly what that right thing is. He’s a very relatable character to the kids and to the adults watching. In this video Galaxy Buck just wants to realize his dream to accomplish something great- which he assumes to be God’s will in his life.
  • The movie is short enough to hold the attention of even little ones, yet long enough to communicate the intended lesson. There are action and adventure, along with the clearly intended message: What our dreams are may not be what God has really told us to do. And our goal in life should be to seek God’s will instead of seeking after our own dreams. Even if what we are doing seems small and meaningless to us at times, if we are in God’s will, we are doing the “big thing.”
  • Galaxy Buck can truly be a family film. The puppets and action and humor in the story will keep younger viewers involved and help them to understand the message. Older kids and even adults can also use the intended message, and may even get more out of the spiritual lessons to be learned than the little kids will. And, even as an adult, I found the story of the movie to be very interesting, funny, and enjoyable.
