The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown is one I’ve read to my kids since they were babies with board books. By the author of Goodnight Moon, The Runaway Bunny, also has the soft, beautiful illustrations and the gentle story with a focus on family.

About the book…
The little bunny in the story is longing for a little independence- as do our own little bunnies at times. He informs Mama Bunny that he is going to run away. He quickly realizes, however, that he’ll never get away from Mama Bunny’s love. As he names all the ways he’ll try to run away, she constantly assures him that she’ll always follow him. The book’s illustrations demonstrate the many ways in which Mama Bunny will always stay with her little bunny.

- Throughout the story, Little Bunny makes up all kinds of stories about what he’s going to do. Have your child write- or narrate- a story about the place he or she would go if he could be anything.
- When Little Bunny is going to become a flower, his mother becomes the gardener. Learn about starting a garden here.
- Use this interactive video to learn about plants and plant parts.
- The picture of Mama Bunny with Little Bunny toward the end of the book is the same picture from the book Goodnight Moon. Read both books and have the kids compare the pictures and the stories.
