If you’re trying to choose books that you don’t want to miss reading with your early elementary aged kids, this post has ten classics you don’t want to miss.

26 Fairmont Avenue by Tomie DePaola

Tomie DePaola is one of my all time favorite children’s authors. In fact, I have a whole unit study featuring him and his books. Although I love his picture books, this chapter book for young elementary kids is great too. It’s a glimpse of the everyday life of a young boy, taken from stories from the real Tomie’s life.

The Magic, Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

I discovered Enid Blyton by chance when my children were young when I stumbled upon some of her books on CD. I hadn’t heard of her growing up as she’s a British author and not as often mentioned in the US as an awesome classic children’s author. All of us fell in love with Blyton’s books, and this one is especially wonderful for the young elementary set. When Joe, Beth, and Fannie climb to the top of the Faraway Tree, they meet magical characters and are taken to new worlds and have fun adventures.
