How to Feel Comfy as a New Mom

Being a new mom can be exciting and frightening. During your pregnancy, your body changes, and it will never be the same as it was before. Your hormones will be in turmoil, and they can take up to 12 months to get back to a non-pregnancy state. You will feel tired to the point of exhaustion at times, but also experience a love like nothing you have ever felt before.

Getting Back To Normal

Your body has to get back to normal over time, although the new normal will be different from the old one. You will have retained a lot of blood and water while pregnant, that you now need to dispose of. This can mean many extra trips to the bathroom, and sometimes your personal parts will become sore and uncomfortable. You will feel that you have more than enough to take care of with your new baby that it is easy to put your own needs to one side.

You can help your situation by wearing good postpartum underwear, such as you can read about at Innerparents. These will give you support, protection and comfort in the vaginal area and make the post-pregnancy toilet issues less of a problem.

Enjoy Some Fresh Air

Most women have a period of feeling low after giving birth. Fresh air is known to lift our moods, and you should make the most of this. Take the baby a walk in the park for an hour, as this has proven to clear the mind and relieve stress. The fresh air will be good for the baby too.

Socialize

If you are at home all day on your own with a new baby it can feel like a pretty lonely experience. Invite friends over, or arrange to meet other moms for your walk in the park. This will give you the chance to talk over any concerns you have with other moms, and often then they do not seem quite so bad.

Have Time For Yourself

It is quite natural to feel that no one can do anything as well for your baby as you can. You need some time for yourself though so should try and get over this feeling. Letting a grandparent, brother, sister or the baby’s dad taking charge for a couple of hours is not going to do any harm. It will give you chance to be yourself for a while, and to do something that is just for you.

Have Quality Time With Your Partner

A new baby can take up all your time and your partner can feel a bit neglected. This is no good for either of you. When the baby is asleep, forget the chores, as they will still be there the next day. Instead, make sure you spend some quality time with your partner, as you will both feel the benefit of this. Even just a few hours a week will make a huge difference.

Having a new baby will change your life totally and some women find it hard to cope at first. You have to try and make sure you get some sleep, eat healthily and generally take care of yourself as well as the baby. Remember, that the worst time is over in just a few weeks, although when you are going through this period, it can feel like an eternity.
