Awesome Homeschool Bible Curriculum or Personal Bible Study: A Review of 30 Days to Understanding the Bible by Max Anders

How well do you really know the Bible? And how do you teach it to your kids? Often we focus on specific parts of the Bible- Bible stories, Bible characters, Bible passages- but we don't ever really learn about the Bible as a whole- it's history, it's geography, it's structure.

I recently had the chance to review a book that will change this. It's a book that is intended for personal or group study but would be awesome as a homeschool Bible curriculum as well.

30 Days to Understanding the Bible: Unlock the Scriptures in 15 Minutes a Day is written by Max Anders. It contains thirty lessons divided into three main sections- The Story of the Old Testament, The Story of the New Testament, and Ten Great Doctrines of the Bible. I was very impressed by the way that this book presents such a complete view of what the Bible is really all about. I'm going to share some of the great features of this book and my idea of how you could easily use this as a family/middle school/high school homeschool Bible curriculum. And make sure you check out the giveaway at the end where you can win a copy of this book!

Awesome Features of 30 Days to Understanding the Bible

~ The book is made up of 30 lessons divided into three categories. This very clear arrangement really helps the reader to see the Bible as a whole.

~ The lessons are clear and concise. They are meant to take fifteen minutes a day or less to read.

~ Each day has sections with blanks for the reader to fill in, checking comprehension, and at the end of each lesson is a self-test to check the reader's memory of the lesson.

~ The lessons cover history, geography, doctrine and more.

~ After the thirty days of lessons, the book contains a number of other helpful resources.

  • A Nanosummary of the Bible- a very complete overview in 3,000 words
  • Teaching plans so that the book can be taught with a group facilitator
  • Further information to help the reader master knowledge of the Bible
  • Eight bonus chapters covering a variety of information

Using 30 Days to Understanding the Bible as a Homeschool Curriculum

So could you use this book as a Bible curriculum? Yes! This would make a great curriculum for the whole family to use together or for middle school or high schoolers to use independently. Here's my plan for it.

I am planning to use this as a Bible curriculum for my high schooler next year. I'll have her complete one section each week. Bible is an elective for us, so we don't need very many hours spent each day or week. I'll have her read the lesson, complete any sections within the lesson, and take the self-test each week. I'll also have a discussion time with her each week, so we can go over what she learned.

Done this way, this will make a thirty week curriculum. Our school year is typically thirty-six weeks, so she'll also have time to read and complete six of the eight bonus chapters.
