Must-Do Family Activities in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Our family heads to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina two times a year typically. We stay with my husband’s extended family at a friend’s house in July- the craziest month to visit the beach! And we stay in our timeshare in September- when things are much calmer and possibly cooler. During both of these trips, we have some traditional family activities we do- places we go, restaurants where we eat, fun entertainment we try not to miss.

Every once in a while, we like to give something new a try as well.

In this post, you’ll find links to some of our favorite activities, places, and events. I’m linking to review posts of some of these so that you can decide whether they are a good fit for your family to enjoy too.
The Hollywood Wax Museum at Broadway at the Beach in South Myrtle is an interesting place with wax figures of many celebrities. They’re posed in a style that makes them each look as if they are standing there ready to talk to you or in a set from the movie or activity that made them famous. In the basement of the building there is also a scary zombie walk-through and a much less scary mirror maze. We’ve actually visited the museum twice, and you can check out our experiences here and here.
Medieval Times is a dinner theater experience that features knights, horses, jousting, and a visit from royalty! As you eat, you cheer for the knight of your section, and the knights earn points- and royal favor throughout the evening until a champion is celebrated at the end. You can read about our Medieval Times adventure here.
If you’re looking for a fun, active experience for the family, check out Shark Wake Park. The park has a huge floating obstacle course and well as lines and pulleys for wakeboarders. Any family members older than seven who can swim can have fun on the floating Aqua Park and the Wake Park section accommodates beginners who can watch video lessons, get instruction from staff, and start out with knee boards. More experienced wakeboarders can try out the ramps. Read about our day at Shark Wake Park here.
For a fun and different family experience, sign up for a photo experience at Preservation Station. It’s a part of the larger T.I.G.E.R.S. wildlife preserve that is set up at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. You can get up close and personal to the adorable baby animals there. And you can get lots and lots of great pictures that document your whole experience. You can see what we thought of this experience here. (Spoiler…I loved it!!)
