I grew up attending a small, private, Christian school. Despite our school being much smaller than public school, we really did have great teachers and academic opportunities…most of the time. Science, however, was a struggle.

Homeschool Science Online
One of the great resources for homeschooling high school science is online classes. Online classes give kids the opportunity to learn from teachers who actually know about and are passionate about science.
There are several different types of online classes. Some give kids prerecorded streaming videos, often accompanied by a workbook, and kids have the opportunity to watch the labs that accompany the subject. Other online classes give kids the chance to attend class live with a teacher and other students in the “classroom.”
College Prep Science is one of the sites that offers these live high school science classes. This resource offers a number of high school level science classes. Many are two semester courses, and there are a few one semester courses as well. They offer a few classes that would be appropriate for kids younger than high school (6th-9th grade). Here are the classes they are currently offering.
– Biology – College Prep (9th-12th) – Two Semester Class
– Life Prep Biology (8th-12th) – Two Semester Class
– Chemistry – College Prep (10th-12th) – Two Semester Class
– Life Prep Chemistry (9th-12th) – Two Semester Class
– Physics – College Prep (10th-12th) – Two Semester Class

More About College Prep Science
Besides offering Christ-centered science classes, College Prep Science has some other resources for homeschoolers. Kids can take their ACT Prep Bootcamp or CLEP Biology Prep classes as well.
The ACT Prep class is a little less than a month long and will prepare kids for the ACT, teaching them strategies for taking the test as well as giving them opportunities to take practice tests. There is homework in the class. And the class is intensive enough to count as a high school credit for study skills or test taking.
A CLEP test can give a student college credit for a class…without them having to complete the actual class in college. It’s a great way to earn credits that will help cover some of the general education requirements in college. The CLEP Biology test will prepare kids for taking the test to earn a credit for basic college biology.
Greg Landry from College Prep Science has some great new things coming in the month of August including a podcast called Homeschool Moms Science Podcast, geared toward helping homeschool moms to teach science, a Homeschool Science Research Journal for Homeschooled 8th – 12th grade students, and a Homeschool Science Art Journal for Homeschooled 8th – 12th grade students. You can check the website to watch for these things.
Readers can also get 8% off of any online class through August 31 when you use the code H8 at check out.
