Homeschool High School Science With In-Person Science Labs

How do you handle teaching science lab classes in your homeschool? We've tried a variety of resources. But, in my experience, labs are more fun and more educational with at least a small group.

When my kids have had to work through the curriculum independently and do the labs individually, they've been less than enthusiastic for the most part. And, to be honest, it's hard for me to devote the time to setting up the lab, making sure it's carried out correctly, and guiding the kids in writing up findings...all for one student at a time.

So...what's a homeschool mom to do?

How about a live, in-person, intensive science lab class that allows your child to earn a full high school credit for biology/anatomy&physiology or chemistry?

College Prep Science for Homeschooling High School Science

A few weeks ago, I introduced a very cool science resource for homeschool moms looking for a Christian worldview science curriculum for high schoolers- College Prep Science. In that post- which you can check out here- I focused primarily on the benefits of using College Prep Science as an online high school science curriculum.

But College Prep Science has another awesome resource- live, in-person science lab intensives. And if you're looking for a way for your high schoolers to earn high school science lab credits and have the opportunity to experience a lab class with a group, this resource could be your answer.

What are the two-day science lab intensives?

With a two-day science lab intensive from College Prep Science, students will meet in person at one of the locations offered. (There are fifteen different locations throughout 2019/20.) They'll attend the live lab classes for the majority of those two days. And they'll earn a year of high school science lab class credit.

Who teaches these high school science classes?

These classes are taught by Greg Landry. He's a homeschool dad and former college professor. He teaches these science classes from a Christian worldview. You can read more about Greg here.

Why are these high school science classes awesome?

~ You can sign up kids from 7th-12th grade. This is great if you have a younger student who is already working on high school credits.

~ There are a variety of locations available for these classes. You can find all fifteen locations for the 2019/20 school year on the information page here. (And I'm assuming this page is updated to show locations for the current year.)

~ These classes are very affordable. Seriously. Even if you factor in a hotel if you have to travel, the price is very competitive with most of the in-person classes I've looked at for my kids.

~ And the classes can become even more affordable if you sign your student up to take both classes. The classes are offered in a four-day block- two for biology and two for chemistry. If you make plans for your student to take both, you're getting two years of high school science credit in four days. Wow!

~ It's more fun- and kids can learn more- doing labs with a group. Kids who are working together can enjoy the company and companionship of other homeschoolers. And when kids complete labs together, they're also getting the opportunity to learn from the critical thinking of the other members of their group.

I think these classes are an awesome resource!
