Working from home is a great way for homeschool moms to bring in some extra income. I know that living on one income is hard! But it’s also hard for homeschooling mamas to work outside the home as well sometimes. So a blog or business working from home is a great solution.

I’ve been blogging and running and business from home for about six years now. But now that my youngest kids are high schoolers, I’m starting to become more deliberate about what I’m doing, and I’m looking for ways to grow my business. That’s why I was super excited to be a part of a recent campaign where I had the opportunity to read and work through an amazing resource for growing traffic to your blog/business!

I’ve been working through the book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers by Russell Brunson. Russell Brunson is a best-selling author and the CEO of the $100 million software company Click Funnels. His books have sold thousands of copies, and he has popularized the idea of using sales funnels to drive traffic to your business.

About Russell Brunson and Traffic Secrets

Russell Brunson is the CEO of Click Funnels. Click Funnels is a $100 million software company that was started by Russell and partner Todd Dickerson in 2014. It has since become the fastest-growing, non-venture-based software company in the world. It’s software that helps entrepreneurs market and sell their products.
Russell Brunson is also a best-selling author. He has two previous marketing books: DotCom Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Growing Your Company Online and Expert Secrets: Find Your Message, Build a Tribe and Change the World.

In Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers, Russell builds on the message of the previous books and teaches entrepreneurs evergreen marketing methods that can help them continually bring in traffic to their websites and sales funnels. By completing the 30-day challenge that goes along with the book, business owners will be learning direct marketing techniques that actually work and will be walked through how to apply these techniques and strategies to actually build their audiences.
From my own experience in running a business as well as from talking with other business owners and entrepreneurs, I know that the biggest struggle isn’t developing great products or materials. The struggle is getting people to see what you’ve created, bringing in traffic to your site and your sales funnels! That’s what the strategies that Russell addresses in this book are for. And that’s why I was so excited to read and work through the book.

A Few Things I’ve Learned While Working Through the Book

When I first picked up Traffic Secrets, I was a little concerned that it would be over my head. Although I’ve run a blog/business for some time now, I’m not a marketer. I’ve already said how that’s an area I really struggle with. But the book is written in a clear, straight-forward way that I didn’t have trouble with. There are some references to Russell’s previous books, but he gives a brief overview of those so that you can easily pick up Traffic Secrets and read it even if you haven’t read those.
The information in the book is presented in a very step-by-step way. There are points in the book where there are exercises suggested to help you understand and implement. And the 30-day challenge workbook that I’ve been completing as I go through the book really helps with that. It’s so helpful when authors give you ways to apply and implement what you’re learning!
One of the big concepts I’ve picked up from the book so far is the idea of your “Dream 100.” Identifying your Dream 100 involves understanding who your dream customers are and then finding where those people are. What groups are they in? Where do they hang out online? Those are the places to target when you’re looking for customers.
The core strategy to understand is that your dream customers have already been congregated by your Dream 100. If you focus on identifying them and marketing to them, your dream customers will start flowing into your funnels faster that anything else you could do.

Another great concept that I’ve learned through reading and working through the book so far is the Hook, Story, Offer framework. Using this pattern, you can present your audience with a hook- something that stops them from scrolling and catches their attention. Then you present them with a story, an actual example of a case in which what you’re selling was used and was helpful. And then- only after the first two have been developed- you can present them with an offer.
This concept wasn’t totally new to me, but there are some great examples of how to use it in the book. And in the challenge workbook, I had the opportunity to work on developing the parts of this framework.
