Make Homeschool Science Simple With Online, Self-Paced Classes

Science: It’s one of those subjects that I hated in school but have thoroughly enjoyed as a homeschool mom. I feared the prospect of teaching science to my kids. But homeschool science has been one of my favorite subjects throughout our homeschooling years. What made the difference?

Finding great science curricula helped me actually learn the concepts and made the subject more interesting. And finding opportunities where my kids could learn from people who knew and loved the subject made them more successful in science as well, and it’s helped them to have increased interest in the subject as well. In fact, my oldest daughter went into a science field as her college major! I never thought that could happen when I was a new homeschooling mama who just hated and feared the idea of teaching science!

College Prep Science: Homeschool Science Classes Online

College Prep Science is a resource I’ve blogged about before. In fact, if you’ve been around the blog, you’ve likely seen me mention them more than once. That’s because they offer resources that will make your venture into science much easier and much more successful.

Greg Landry is the teacher of the College Prep Science classes. He’s a homeschooling dad and former college science professor. He teaches from a Christian perspective, and that’s something I’ve always looked for in science curricula.

Greg says, “we want to prepare competent, confident students for their remaining high school years, their college years, and life. The fact that our classes and labs are taught from a Christian / Creationist worldview does not mean they’re ‘watered down. Quite the contrary – they are very challenging. I believe we should think critically, deeply, creatively, and biblically. God is glorified as we explore his creation… illuminating His Creation, revealing His glory.”

Although College Prep Science offers a variety of different science curricula resources for homeschooling families. We’ve been using the Young Scientist Anatomy and Physiology online, self-paced class.

Videos for every lesson are posted, and there is a PDF workbook to download. This workbook has the worksheets and other information that goes along with each lesson. The workbook will really guide kids through the lessons and give them an opportunity to answer questions and practice what they’re learning. Although students don’t have access to a live teacher during lessons, they can use the Canvas inbox to message Mr. Landry to get help when needed.

Why Use College Prep Science Online, Self-Paced Classes for Homeschool Science?

So, if you’re looking for a homeschool science curriculum why might these online, self-paced classes be a great fit for your family?

The classes are taught from a Christian perspective.

As a Christian homeschooling mom, I’ve used a variety of curricula in our homeschool. And I don’t only use “Christian” curricula. But, in the area of science, I like to have a curriculum that is taught from a Christian perspective. I think that can really shape how kids think about science and about using it to learn more about God’s creation. And I think that having science from a Christian perspective in elementary school and high school can also prepare kids who might go to a secular university and take science to be able to evaluate what they’re looking through a Christian worldview lens.

These classes are affordable- even if you have a larger family.

Your payment gets you a year’s access to the class you choose on Canvas as well as the right to print the PDFs for your immediate family. This means that you can group kids together and have multiple kids using the one class for the year. And if you- like me!- are always looking for ways to stretch your homeschool budget- this is awesome!

These classes are self-paced.

I like to use video-based lessons that are taught by an actual teacher who is proficient in the subject. And sometimes live classes with interaction with a real teacher is great. But some kids need self-paced flexibility. They might need more time to work on their assignments. Or you may be using the class with multiple kids who are working at different paces. I really appreciate the flexibility a self-paced class allows.

If these benefits appeal to you and you know that the online, self-paced classes from College Prep Science would be a great option for your family, you can check them out and choose a class. here.
